I know that complex apnea often occurs with weak hearts/lungs.
But I have a very strong heart and lungs.
In my youth, I was a very strong distance runner, and now I do lots of
mtn biking. And my lungs out shine my riding buddies (one of which is
my Doctor).I've read that the complex apnea is related to ones carbon dioxide
levels. carbon dioxide drives breathing. The cpap drives down the
co2 levels (more so with higher pressure). If the co2 level gets down
to certain level, your brain doesn't see a need to breath (after you
stopping breathing for a bit, the co2 levels will rise, and breathing
with begin again). The level where you stop is probably a bit higher
on those with complex apnea.I've been wondering if my running/biking experience has effected my
co2 sensitivity. Way back in the day, I could run 6 minute miles and
hold a conversation. The competitive running must fine tune ones
lungs. I really wonder if this puts me a place where my brain calls
it quits at a high level of co2 then one would like. It would seem to
make sense to stop at a higher level with stronger lungs.
