If there is an infection in the eye-sinus area he should see a physician. To close to the brain to take chances.

I wouldn't use the new mask until the problem has healed. It may have been strapped on too tightly. Since every face is different, not all masks will fit everyone properly.

There are nasal pillows that fit in the nostrils and shouldn't put any pressure on the infected area.
