I use the nasal-only mask and I like it. I've never used the full face mask so I can't comment, other than that they are much more expensive.
For carrying your CPAP on a plane, they will allow you to carry it. You have to remove it from the carry-on bag for the x-ray and they will have to wipe it down to test for explosive residue. They do this because the x-rays can't see through the motor and this is their way of satisfying the inspection rules.
The good thing is that the CPAP doesn't count as a carry-on item. You can still have a regular carry-on bag plus your "personal item" like your laptop. If challenged, tell them it's a medical device. I've never had a problem.
Something I tell new CPAP users before you try to sleep with it is to wear it when you're awake, such as watching TV. You have to learn how to hold your mouth and tongue and it's much easier to learn when you're not exhausted and trying to sleep.
Best of luck!
