Posted by Phil on August 07, 2009 at 02:59:08:I am not sure if my problem is sleep apnea but I seem to have some of the symptoms. I have been waking up frequently - up to 7 or 8 times every night - for the past 10 months. I wake with a start, often sweating profusely (torso, hands), my heart rate is elevated and so is my blood pressure. Sometimes I feel as if I may have stopped breathing prior to waking. My hands are usually hot, puffy and clammy during the day too. My blood tests have been normal and I have been thoroughly checked out by an endocrinologist and cardiologist who found nothing abnormal. I am due to see a neurologist sometime soon. Although I feel terrible in the morning, I usually feel well enough by the afternoon to go for a brisk walk (with a few spurts of jogging) for about an hour most days and don't feel the need to sleep in the daytime. My doctor is trying to put me on anti-depressants, which I am resisting. The problem started the day my mother died, which is why my doctor feels the symptoms are caused by stress and anxiety. I think anxiety may be playing a part but I think there is more to it than that. Any advice or suggestions would be very welcome as I feel quite desperate now. Phil
