Posted by dulcie on September 01, 2009 at 18:39:16:Although I suspected I had sleep apnea for years (based on my loud snoring, sore throat and husband's comments about my trouble sleeping) oddly enough, what finally drove me to the sleep center was my legs (and overwhelming fatigue).
For 3 years I have been plagued by pitting edema in my legs ... worse in the left than the right. It started out as an intermittent problem in my feet, the moved up my legs and became more frequent until it was basically not a case of IF I was puffy, but HOW MUCH. Edema also seemed to affect my face, neck and hands from time to time. Plus, I was exhausted. I'm only 42, but I was feeling like an octogenarian.
I was put through my paces as far as medical tests are concerned ... CAT scan, countless blood tests, venous dopplers, peripheral artery exams, abdominal sonograms, you name it ... each one showed that I was healthy as a horse. My doctor was getting annoyed to see me keep returning to her office and suggested I just learn to live with it. But I couldn't. Finally, I was the one who requested the sleep study, because I saw an article that tied idiopathic edema to sleep apnea.
Is there anyone out there who has a similar experience?? Did CPAP help clear up your edema and if so ... how long did it take?
Thanks,
Dulcie
