You may be sleeping on your back for extended periods of time for the first time in many years. When you're on your back your feet and toes point up and come under some stress from the weight of the bed sheets and blankets. Such a situation is not experienced while sleeping on one's side. I really don't know for sure that this is what's happening to you, but if this is perhaps causing problems you could try wearing warm socks to bed and pulling back the sheets and bed coverings so your feet are exposed. That can take some stress off your feet and ankles.
