One quick note on the flip side. They are finding vitamin D is also tied to sleep issues.

If the brain uses photoperiod to set the circadian clock it would make sense that serum vitamin D (sunlight on skin) is also a major programming factor. Sunlight on the skin is hard to find in most of North America in the winter.

If you decide to take a daily vitamin D supplement in winter be sure to take it first thing in the morning. In that way it peaks during the day. Be sure to read the most recent research by experts available for there is a lot of outdated informatin out there.
