In the U.S., a CPAP is a prescription device; you do need a diagnosis! If you live anywhere other than the U.S., you'll need to find out what the law is where you live.

In any case, you would need a sleep study to determine your pressure setting. Typically, this would run somewhere between 5cmH2O and 18cmH2O. Note that the "severity" of your case is not a good predictor of what setting you would need.
