I have been trached for 16 years due to severe mixed apnea and a damaged brain stem. It was a last effort because nothing else helped me over the years.

I advise you to take this step only if nothing else gives you relief. I do know the problems you are having and I do know that anyone not in that situation would suggest you do not have a trach, They do not understand the problem.

I took to the trach very well, perhaps I am the exception.

I am on a bi pap attached to the trach tube and sleep with no trouble at all. There are no problems with masks, etc. cause the hose is on the tube (plastic to plastic, so to speak).

I spend more time brushing my teeth each day than it takes me to care for the trach and all I can tell you is what the specialist told me years ago

"trach or die soon".

I have posted here for many years and there are many posts you can look up. Look for "Phil", "Carolyn" and "The hole in the throat gang".

Perhaps this will help you and I will be here if you want to post here as well.

Flip (used to post here as "Phil"

Please do not wait too long to explore this and arrive at a conclusion, this problem can get ahead of you and you may not be able to catch up.
