Your stage one is VERY high. Also, if they are reporting stage 4 I would question the lab/center as
the American Academy of Sleep Medicine imposed new rules in July of 2008 that eliminated stage
4. 3 & 4 are now officially known as stage N3. I would also be curious to see your ahi and rdi in
supine (on your back) rem? People can have mild osa and be very symptomatic. Is the doc board
certified and is the lab accredited by the AASM? As we age we have less N3 sleep so if you are 75
it is possible that you did not have any, though, I have seen it in people of that age. If they are
not using the AASM rules imposed in 2008 they may not be recording F3 and F4 eeg leads. The
frontal lobes (F3/4) show N3 that may not appear in other tracings. This is why the AASM now
requires them. You may have had a fine study but just some things to consider. I work in a AASM
accredited center and there are are couple of great docs and a couple of not so great sleep docs.
So even in an accredited center you may not get the right treatment but to me it is a minimum
standard and if the lab does not even follow those standards then you may be left with more
questions than answers.
