Tech kept waking me during study

I had a sleep study this week, during which the tech repeatedly woke me up to reattach the wires to my right calf. It was supposed to be a split study, but apparently there weren't enough events per hour for CPAP to be indicated. However, I do not believe that I even slept for a continuous hour. I don't see how the data could be adequate to make any sort of determination regarding treatment. The tech didn't even try to be quiet or unobtrusive while reapplying the electrodes. She announced her presence each time. Worse, the facility (at a prominent New York City hospital) didn't even attempt to create a comfortable sleep environment. The bed was hard and plasticky feeling, like instead of a mattress there was upholstery for patio furniture. Also, the pillow couldn't have been more than an inch and a half thick. I had no warning that the conditions would be like this. If I had, I would have brought a pillow and mattress topper.

I feel like I am at square one. I am falling asleep at work, during conversations (mid-sentence while speaking!!! - and when I wake up I have no idea what I was talking about. I have fallen asleep during training sessions where I am expected to know the material. Co-workers have commented on this. I am humiliated, and nobody who is supposed to be providing care seems to grasp the severity or the urgency of this problem. Neither the sleep center the sleep doctor seem to give a rat's behind about this. I can't risk becoming a street person because I can't stay awake at work. My insurance company will not cover Provigil or Nuvigil until I attempt and fail CPAP therapy. All I have is 15mg Adderall XL to keep me awake and it has long since stopped doing the trick. I am doubling up now, but I will run out soon, and I don't know if anyone will write a prescription for the increased dosage. I'm at the point where I am considering illicit substances (much cheaper and much more readily available) to self-medicate.
