Can general practitioners prescribe provigil, or do you have to be a sleep specialist to do so?

I'm looking for a a good doctor in Los Angeles who will prescribe Provigil without making me jump through a lot of hoops. My dad has sleep apnea. He went through a dozen tests at sleep labs and ended up getting a CPAP machine he never wears.

I have milder sleep apnea, but also suffer from shift workers syndrome. I've seen my dad struggle with the CPAP so I know that's not for me. Provigil is probably the only thing that can improve my life, but I don't want to go through the trouble of doing the whole sleep lab thing. Just thinking about it makes me tired (well to be honest, lots of things make me tired...)

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
