It was determined through a sleep study that my oxygen levels were good, my AHI is 0 and my RDI is 15. I have been trying CPAP for about a year with little success and am still very sleepy during the day. (I also have RLS, but that's another story.)
I have looked into MMA surgery and have it scheduled for next week. My oral surgeon told me I have an airway of only 3mm and that my problem is skeletal. (I'm not overweight and I'm only 28 years old.) However, it is very invasive with many possible complications, and I'm worried I'm going over the top with this surgery, seeing as my apnea is relatively mild.
I went to an ENT yesterday and was told that I have a deviated septum and large turbinates and would need to get surgery on my nose as well to breathe better. It was suggested by my ENT that it is possible that I would tolerate CPAP better with this surgery. However, that means I would have to still use a CPAP forever. He also stated that a UPPP surgery would not work for me as these tissues are not blocking anything.
What do all of you think? Should I do the MMA next week, or should I just get my nose done first? What have your experiences been like?LeahInMN
