Have you tried getting a second opinion? Given that you have doubts and that you've heard two very different diagnoses, that certainly seems appropriate.

I understand your desire to find a permanent solution; if there is a structural problem, it makes sense to solve the problem. On the other hand, surgery is risky and doesn't always work. But others can tell you much more about the surgeries than I can. Some people are greatly helped.

If you have any interest in pursuing CPAP, there may be people who can help you to find strategies to make it work.
