My take on it..
These "sleep centers" have been popping up all over the place. There
has been a huge increase over a short period of time. Obviously, this
wouldnt happen without financial incentive..So whose regulating,
standardizing all these places? Yes we are a sleep deprived nation
desparetly looking for help, but are we really getting the right "help"
at some of these places. People need to do there homework before forking
out good money for a sleep study. They dont realize these are not
necessarily sleep centers but sleep apnea centers thats were the money
is.So, back to the number. In my case they simply looked at the "number"
of 16 and said guess what you have OSA. My guess is if your over
certain threshold its easy to get insurance to pay ie they need something
concrete. So, off to the second study and ultimately home with my CPAP.
Well, CPAP can be a good thing but more then anything it must be the
RIGHT thing. Your posting was very wise, this is a complex condition
living with a device like this should involve alot of discussion and its
not for everyone. I tried for two weeks but could not tolerate it, from
what I have since learned it was not right for me anyway.
