I'm sure you're right, Barb. I got the same "no problem" answer concerning surgery and recovery, since I would be intubated. But once assigned to a room, I insisted on a CPAP machine. My oxygen in the hospital was never less than 98 percent. I had to put up with a different alarm, which went off every time my heart rate would dip below 50 (it would go as low as 42 during the night), but that wasn't an apnea issue. My normal pulse during the day is only about 56. Your experience reinforces my post, in which I tried to encourage apnea sufferers to make CPAP arrangements prior to surgery for use during their hospital stay. And that includes naps. They were in no hurry to bring the machine to the room, because they apparently thought I would only need it at night. No. I refuse to nap without the machine.
