Yes, always feeling sleepy can affect how you respond to the world. It can slow down your thinking and make the world seem less interesting. I haven't had the severity of symptoms that you have, but I may not have had the same level of sleep deficit either. Things do get better when you overcome your sleep deficit (they did for me), but if you have a severe deficit, it may take some time to be fully back to normal.

You might also consider the possibility that you have become depressed, which would be understandable given your difficulties. You would still want to treat the primary cause (your sleep difficulties), but maybe being evaluated for depression could provide some short-term relief as well.
