People vary greatly in how easily they adapt to CPAP. Some adapt immediately, and some take 2 or 3 weeks. Even then, doctors consider it a success if you use it 4 hours a night. I had a lot of trouble getting used to it, but I now use it through the entire night and sometimes fail to notice it to the point that I have to check to be sure it is on. (There are still little annoyances, such as when moisture in the exhaust vents creates whistling, but it's better than always being sleepy.) But I remember the days when I couldn't sleep without CPAP, but I slept even worse with it. The adjustment period can be tremendously frustrating.
The severity of apnea depends in part on how it is affecting your life. From what you say, even though the apnea is only borderline, it seems that you are having enough problems that you need to address it. It may not feel like it, but you actually have made some good progress.
Are there particular problems that you are having? Possibly someone can offer help if we know just what is bothering you.
Take care.
