What do you mean by insomnia? Do you mean that he can't fall asleep or that he keeps waking up after falling asleep? If he keeps waking up, then apnea might be the reason. If he can't fall asleep in the first place, there might be a different reason for the insomnia. Has he always had insomnia, or has it been simultaneous with his current apnea?

I long had difficulty falling asleep. I solved that largely by changing some of my nightly routines. (For me, exercising and taking a shower before I go to bed helps, largely because it clears my mind; others find that exercise wakes them up. Spending too long on the computer late at night keeps me awakie; TV or reading help me sleep. Keeping regular sleep hours is helpful. When our kids' school schedule changed, that changed my routine.)

Since you know that he has apnea, treating that seems like a good first step. But it's also good to set up good sleep routines.
