I believe many models provide for an altitude adjustment, though mine is manual rather than automatic. I guess that might come in handy if you make a lot of trips to or from the mountains, but I doubt that makes a big difference. In general, you find the settings that work for you and you leave them there.

I wouldn't be too concerned about whether the water container can be opened. I have one that doesn't open, and I've used it for 2 years without it discoloring. I just clean it by putting in a little baby shampoo and water, and then shaking it; it's a little harder to get the soapy water out, but it will come out with a few rinses and drainings.

Battery backup is a nice feature, especially if you go camping or are subject to power outages. Some people need to have CPAP every night, while for others a single missed night isn't a big deal.
