Need hope - apnea & insomnia

My husband has gone through 9 months of insomnia (mainly sleep maintenance at this point - wakes up frequently in the night) and was diagnosed with mild apnea (20 arousals per hour - not full breathing events, no desaturation).

He's been sleeping on his side which helped somewhat and he established a better, but still very fragile sleep cycle. Now he's trying CPAP. Well, his sleep is cycle has rapidly deteriorated over the last 3 days. He tried to go without the CPAP last night because he was so in need of a break from it, but barely slept at all - the insomnia is back because of the anxiety of having 3 bad nights from using CPAP.

I'm sure it's hard enough for anyone to adjust to CPAP but when you have insomnia on top of that, it becomes even harder.

Anyone dealt with both? He took his usually reliable klonopin on the nights he tried CPAP and his sleep was still very disrupted.

Thanks.
