It's fairly common for it to take a while to overcome a sleep deficit. Some people feel better immediately, and some take a few weeks. It took me even longer to get back my reserve so I could stay up late if I wanted.

I don't know why you would switch from feeling better to feeling tired again (perhaps you felt better because of the contrast with your recent experience), but a delay in feeling better isn't a problem in itself.
