I started twelve and a half years ago (August of 1999). My doctor prescribed an F & P HC-201. That model, long since discontinued, was the only one with a built-in heated humidifier available at that time. It was rather noisy and large by today's standards, but I traveled to quite a few places with it. At that time, the heated humidifiers on the market were not dual voltage so (other than getting a humidifier for Europe or carrying a bulky and unreliable converter) there was no way to have heated humidification in countries that had 220-volt electricity.

The mask was not all that different from the mask I use today. There have been a few minor improvements in the mask design, but no real breakthroughs.
