Posted by Anonymous on October 22, 1999 at 07:07:53:I am posting this information for the benefit of others on this board who may be experiencing the same problem, but may not know it. I was diagnosed with OSA in January/99. I started feeling better physically a few weeks after starting on CPAP, but could not shake feelings of tiredness. I am still sleeping through my alarm some mornings, and having a hard time getting up before noon on weekends. My concentration is still bad, and I find myself daydreaming all the time. I just figured that there was some other sleep disorder that I must have, such as hypersomnia because I'm always drowsy and sleepy.
I went for a second opinion to another sleep specialist. They found indications during my sleep studies performed in September/99 of depression. My doctor showed me the test results, and I was quite surprised. She explained to me that I am not Stage 4 sleeping properly and, therefore, not getting proper deep sleep. I also have many arousals during the night unrelated to OSA. I have been given a prescription for Prozac to combat the depression, and hopefully, the sleep disturbances caused by it. If any of you have an opinion or experience with the same type of situation, please post a message.
