After one week, finally it works!

This got a bit long...sorry!

I just finished my first week on CPAP...they put me on a Virtuoso LX 'cause I've not been formally titrated (my sleep study was to wire me all up at the office, then go home and sleep, and bring it all back the next morning).

With the standard (I'd say "el-cheapo") mask they gave me, I had nothing but trouble. I tried everything from the posts here. Looser, tighter, different spacer foam sizes, even the K-Y jelly. Either the thing leaked (even down at pressure of 5), or it hurt the bridge of my nose and underneath my nose. I'd had it today when I woke up with an open sore (fortunately quite small) on the bridge of my nose. I called the home-care provider and said I needed something else.

When I went in, she tried to use the same mask but put me in different headger. I knew it wouldn't make any difference, but I went along with it for a bit. I brought the machine in too just to make sure I could do the leak test while testing the adjustments in the office. She even brought out a 3rd set of straps. Of course, it didn't help. I finally asked again if she had another mask...she disappeared into the back room and came back with a GoldSeal. I've seen that some in these forums have had problems with that too, but the moment I put it on, I knew it was worlds ahead of what I'd been fighting with. With minimal strap tightening, the thing doesn't leak, and even with my sore nose, it doesn't really hurt to have it on.

Even with all the trouble, I've been sleeping quite well. I'm not tired during the day, and my wife LOVES the fact that I'm not making such an incredible noise at night.

My advice...if you have trouble with any aspect of your system, MAKE SOME NOISE aboutit with your provider until it gets set right.
