Here's my input from a earlier post (over look the military stuff):
I'm now 18-months post UPPP/septoplasty/turbinectomy/tonsilectomy, still snore like a bull, continue to exhibit symptoms of OSA and from one military guy to another:
- Ask your doc for non-invasive alternatives. Maybe there are CPAP masks that come in USAF blue.
- Ask about scarring. I think I now have more tissue back there than before.
- Invest in a recliner.
- Get used to liquid Motrin (this actually worked better than the lame prescription pain meds).
- You're gonna lose weight because you're not going to want anything near your throat. But, it (weight) may come back with a vengence.
- Liquid Motrin, water, broth, applesauce, soup with noodles, bread soaked in soup...finally a steak after 30-45 days (but chew thoroughly).
- 7-14 days of leave. If they give you 30-days medical leave, take it! Or is that still just for maternity leave?! :-)
- Learn not to sneeze for awhile.
- Be prepared to lose some water, when you drink from a water fountain, out of your nose. Kid's love it when you drink a soda and it comes out of your nose!
- No more on demand snorting sounds.
- Iiiiffff, you decide to have the surgery, ask your dentist if he sees anything missing. This may be the answer for you.....now that I've gotten my courage back, I'll be re-visiting the pulmonologist and finding out about the other alternatives.
Good luck...don't mean to scare you, just prepare yourself for the worst and when you're no longer feeling tired and your spouse is able to sleep with you, you'll know not to listen to a Navy guy.
Feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any other questions.
