GENIOGLOSSUS ADVANCEMENT

Posted by BRUCE on October 25, 1999 at 12:50:51:

I am scheduled for a Genioglossus Advancement in November and would like info from anyone who had this procedure done.
My doc said to expect about a week of pain but not as bad as my last surgery which included UPPP & Septoplasty about a year ago. That surgery was absolute pure HELL!! I still snore (although not nearly as much) and my OSA actually got twice as bad since. I have tried CPAP, and BIPAP and both do not work at all for me. I am really hoping this next surgery will work.

Also, has anyone experienced a lump feeling or like a baseball stuck in the back of the throat? I have had this sensation ever since I can remember and wonder if this may be the toungue muscle pushing up against my throat. I have asked my dr. and numerous specialists about this and nobody knows. One even suggested it was all in my head!!

Back to my orginal qustion concerning Genioglossus advancement surgery. Some of the questions are as follows:

1. how bad is the pain and how long to expect it?
2. does the pain meds do much good?
3. Is there any swelling? How much?
4. Any danger of swelling to the point of difficulty breathing?
5. Will my kid run and hide when he sees me after surgery?
6. Can you eat solid foods?
7. When can you expect to feel @ 100%?
8. Does this cure OSA?

There is of course many more but I fail to think of them as of now. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
