stuffy nose

Posted by schrec on November 03, 1999 at 18:38:15:

I have been on cpap now for about a month. I was alright at
the beginning, but the last week and a half I have had problems with a stuffy nose. The stuffiness seems to be the worst during weather changes. I also get really stuffy at work. I work in a building with recycled air and such. I have been using Vick's Sinex, but that says not to use for prolonged periods because nasal congestion may return and may even get worse.

I would take antihistamines but they usually contain ephedrine which keeps me awake. I used to have no trouble sleeping when I was getting bad sleep, but now that I am getting good sleep with the cpap, I notice that I sleep a lot less than I used to and if I do not work out or do something tiring during the day I am up all night. I am hesitant about taking an over the counter med that may keep me awake. Also I am hesitant to take an over the counter med for an extended time.

I want to know what others do to keep the nose clear, and what kinds of stuff my doctor may give me. What's good what's bad, what works what doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found many postings on here to be helpful and informative. It is also good that I can come into a site like this and get info and ask questions without pestering my doctor. Other than the stuffy nose, this CPAP has been a saving grace for me.

thanks in advance for the help.
