Can sleep apnea cause death?

Posted by Russ on November 13, 1999 at 13:47:32:

My father just had routine knee replacement surgery and the night following the surgery he died unexpectedly and unexplained. He was diagnosed with sleep apnea years ago and the doctors have ruled out that his death was due to a heart attack, blood clot or stroke. We do know that he was given 10mg of Morphine for pain sometime during the night. His passing has left our family with alot of unanswered questions. Does anyone have anything to share?
