Sleep apnea and idiopathic edema

Posted by Lori on November 14, 1999 at 20:32:21:

I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea and started on CPAP therapy 2 days ago. I have a lot of the common symptoms mentioned by people on this site, tired all the time, falling asleep while driving, morning headaches.

But additionally, I have unexplained swelling all over my body. I can gain or lose 10-20# in 12-24 hours. Over the past 10 years, it would come and go, but for over 5 years now I've been on this constant see-saw. Last week I lost 22# in 48 hours only to regain 12# in the past 24 hours.

I am a 52 yr old, obese, diabetic woman who is disabled by this condition. My nephrologist recommended the sleep study
as a possible answer to my edema problems.

Anyone else out there with idiopathic edema (unexplainable swelling) using CPAP therapy?

I am new to this Forum but plan to check back often for advice and support as I work through the CPAP experience.

Thanks!
