Last December, my heart stopped on the operating table after they opened me up to do a hysterectomy. I have OSA and my primary care doctor and my gynecologist were aware of this and were in the OR. The problem was the anesthesiologist; he had an attitude, did not contact me prior to going into the OR; and frankly didn't seem to want the information that I so freely wanted to give him!! He did not take any of these OSA problems into consideration. Two months after that I finally had the hysterectomy completed and had "my" anesthesiologist, my PCP, my gynecologist and a cardiologist there. They put in a temporary pacemaker immediately prior to the surgery. All went well. This fine anesthesiologist contacted me at home on three occasions and talked to my doctors, read the reports from the hospital, etc. Bottom line is that you need someone who does his homework and has made preparations for any emergency!! Check out your doctors before any surgery. Good luck to all.
