Troubles w/ Mirage nasal mask & Sullivan chin strap

Posted by Paulette on January 25, 2000 at 08:38:48:

After waking up with a sore nose from the nasal pillows and my mouth open every morning, I have been switched to a Mirage nasal mask along with a Sullivan chin strap. I cannot use the chin strap in the position that the illustration shows you to. I have to place the strap towards the back of my head to make it stay in place. Otherwise, it just slips forward. It's definately not made for people with long hair. Also, the Mirage nasal mask, I'm having a some trouble with it as well. It seems no matter how many times I try to reseat it so that it can get a better seal, I still have small leaks on the lower part between my nose and my upper lip. I don't want to tighten the headgear too much because I know that I shouldn't have to have it tight for it to seal. To begin with I did have some leaks near my eyes, but reseating it seemed to remedy those. Also, the headgear for my nasal pillows had velcro fasteners on top of my head to hold the tubing in place, which helped to minimize movement of the nasal pillow device when I moved in my sleep. The headgear for the Mirage nasal mask does not have this feature, so everytime I try to move during the night, the tubing causes the mask to move on my face which causes even more leaks. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Can you offer any advice? Sorry to rant on and on, but I am beginning to get frustrated. My husband asks me every morning when this is supposed to start helping me. I feel a little better, but nowhere near back to normal. I know it takes time, but I just can't seem to get him to understand that. Please help!
