Hang in there. The first five days are tough. I'm on day 11 and back to work after a septoplasty and drainage/port drilling into my ethmoid and maxillary sinuses. The worst part was having packing in my nose for 2 days and then witnessing the doctor yank those suckers out. Where was David Lynch when ya need him? Anyways, I had major breathing problems until Day 8. Water irrigating the sinuses makes miricals happen.

Why are you "intubated"? Is it necessary?

And what's an "uars"?

The thing that helped me heal the most is that I laid off being dependent on pain meds, this way my brain knew where the pain was and went speedily to work. Try alternating your pain meds with extra strength tylenol, and avoid dairy products as they create extra mucous and make your nose stuffy. And, maybe you have some swelling, so put some light ice pack over your sinuses. It helps to use crushed ice because then you're not adding extra weight to your sore nose.

Again, if you can, irrigate 3 times a day. It's very scarey at first, especially to see all the blood clots that are truly gigantic, but the mirical is that water will wash away your icky blood to leave a wonderful room of air for your sinuses. Everytime I get cranky because the house gets stuffy, I go and irrigate and notice the change of the air. It's amazing.

Take care,
Louise
