Hi CherylB,
By all means, get a heated humidifier if you can. If your doctor is a good guy (or woman) he (or she) should have no problem prescribing it. Most physicians know that compliance is higher with a heated humidifier than the passover type.
For me, I had all kinds of problems with my Oasis passover (but it is OK to travel with for a night or two). BTW, my DME allowed me to keep my Oasis when I changed my mind and bought the Sullivan Humidaire later on. I didn't even have to pay for the Oasis (I suppose after renting it to me and BC/BS for 5 months they figured they had paid for it ten times over anyway).
My DME didn't care which humidifier I used with my Sullivan V Elite, but the Sullivan Humidaire that I ended up with works great. They look kind of "meant for each other" on my nite stand. It is a little bit more difficult for many people to get H2O in the 3/4" hole that the humidifier has (you can take the top off, but it is a hassle). My Glenwood Inglewood distilled water dispenser has a nozzle that fits perfectly, so this is not a problem for me. You might want to check the Sullivan Humidaire out, tho. I like it a lot.
As for your choice of a CPAP, I think you will like the Sullivan V Elite, it is very quiet and easy to use. Much nicer than my old Remstar Plus LX by ResMed.
Keep us posted on your "adventures".
Regards,
Breezin'
