What your health care provider is telling you is basically hogwash showing that they are either not flexible in their treatment suggestions or they lack knowledge about other equipment.
I use the nasal pillows and love them. I am titrated at a pressue of 13. I have had my pressure as high as 15. I have friends with pressure higher than that. None of us have a problem with the seal of the nasal pillows.I have tried four different mask and found that none of them was a comfortable or sealed well as
the nasal pillows. Now there is one thing to consider here. I do use a custom fitted headset
offered by one of the vendors advertising in the sleep Mall. This made a world of
difference in comfort. I highly recommend setting up your nasal pillows as instructed
on his web site. You will also need to make sure that you get an angle adaptor with your nasal pillows.
Many Respiratory Therapist fail to offer this. You will notice a big difference with
the angle adaptor. It allow the pillows to point directly up the nostrils which is much
more comfortable and offers a better seal.I have spoken with many people who did not like the nasal pillows. The problem was that
the set up was not right so they went back with the mask. Seven of the nine people that
I've helped get set up properly, swear by their nasal pillows now.The nasal pillows are great for sleeping on your side. There is very little contact
with the pillow that you lay your head on, therefore air leaks are minimized.Nasal pillows are easier to clean and appear to be more durable. The only thing that
ever needs replacement (which isn't often) is the rubber pieces that come in contact
with the nose holes.I personally think that the nasal pillows are quieter. Mainly because the rushing air
is not echoing inside a mask piece. The ventilation hole is quiet also.I really hope this helps.
Good luck
