The advantage to renting at first is that you get to try out different things with less cost to you until you find what works best. For me at least, purchasing everything was most cost enffective in the long run.
I reccommend a heated humidifier.
I have a Solo Plus CPAP, a Fisher & Paykel heated humidifeir, a Mirage naal mask, a Mirage full face mask, and nasal pillows. I switch among the pillows and masks for comfort. I have not had too much trouble with insurance paying for stuff because I switched insurance companies after the old one bought my stuff so the new one paid for the new mask and the pillows.
I think it pays to shop around IF your insurance company gives you the lattitude to do so.
Some people in past posts seem to have found that surgical options have not worked or have only helped a little and they have ended up on CPAP anyway. The Trach was the exception.
Good luck!
