Re: Dr.'s hating well-informed patients. I think it's more a matter of the hassle of getting insurance companies to approve orders.

My boss Dr Sack is more than willing to order heated humidifiers, Mirage masks, etc. and I know several of the DME's in this area make in home visits and set ups. So, it isn't bad all the time.

The funniest (or saddest) situation I've seen with insurance was a ENT doctor ordering a PSG to document apnea in a little boy because insurance wouldn't pay for a tonsillectomy! Crazy!!
