I had a GGA, Hyoid & 3 rounds of somnoplasty last year. The surgeries helped my OSA, but haven't corrected it. Have also lost 40#. My pulmonologist says that if I continue to lose weight, I should start to see some changes. I was using my CPAP p/t, but have to use it all the time. If your husband has the GGA & HP, get him an infant toothbrush. He won't be able to open his mouth to use a regular toothbrush and some anti-plaque swish. Also, he needs to make sure that he doesn't chew. Nothing hard, cruncy, fried for about about 8 wks. He can fracture his jaw, the he will have to have his mouth wired shut. He can eat pasta, baked fish, chicken, stay away from beef, milkshakes (yeah). He'll be in the hospital for 3 days, off work for a week. He'll have 10 stitches in his neck from the HP & 12 in his mouth from the GGA and probably 2-3 screws in his jaw (no he won't set off the metal detectors). It will take about 8 wks for the swelling to go down. The pain is very minimal. Like going to the dentist. Let me know if you have any questions.
