Chuck,
I've had the same problem for twenty-years. I posted a message on 1/10/2000 forum 24, which happens to be this present one; Subject:Tongue Surgery?(Long). I didn't get any responses. Maybe the phrase,"(Long)", discouraged people or maybe nobody had any advice. But I have symptoms very similar to yours. I had UPPP/Septoplasty/Turbinectomy. Five months after surgery, my AHI dropped from 28 to 7. My Sa O2 changed from 85% to 94%. I felt improvement in my breathing, but I'm still not breathing the way I should be. Further problem may be in base of tongue.
I saw an ENT who specializes in sleep apnea yesterday, and he tried to focus on anxiety problems I've may have developed. Over the years, I also developed a hiatal hernia or GERDS depending on how you define it. The doctor also told me that he thinks the majority of my breathing obstruction could be the result of a unproperly treated hiatal hernia. He wounded up subscribing some bedtime medication to relieve anxiety in my sleep and Prolizec for my hiatal hernia. He told me to come back at the beginning of May. One good thing I can say about this doctor is that he doesn't appear to be the "rush to surgery" type. On the other hand, I don't know if he is focusing enough on my apnea problem, the kind that affects you during the day, like yours. He claims that there is no way to pinpoint the site of obstruction, including MIRs. This was discouraging to me. If you get a chance check out that previous message I was referring to on forum 24, the present one, on 1/10/2000.Ronald
