Posted by Kathiesl on February04, 2000 at 12:47:10:I was in my work's benefits office discussing my problems with the DMEs and insurance and they were asking what equipment I was buying. I started to describe the CPAP and the DIRECTOR of benefits walks in and says "I know what a CPAP is, it's a machine that ends up under the bed after 13 days and we (the company) end up paying megabucks for it." Nice attitude! If I'd had my wits about me, I would have asked her, "what cheaper methods of therapy do you suggest? Or do you think that sleep apnea doesn't exist?" However, I was so shocked that I just mumbled something stupid.
It's amazing how this negative attitude prevails among the insurance community. I think her attitude is the same thinking that insurance companies must have about our condition (that it's a big joke.) We've gotta get Bette or someone to substantiate our claims (not that our sleep doctors and sleep clinics are having much luck doing this.)
