Posted by CherylB on February04, 2000 at 13:41:24:We need to organize and make a grassroots appeal to congress about all the problems we encountered with treatment of sleep apnea. Congress has successfully legislated relief for other special causes (HIV and AIDS, let new mommies stay in hospital at least 1 day after having baby, force health plans to cover mental health on equal basis as other health problems, etc.) I think insurance and health plans are more cynical about treatment of OSA than they are alcoholism. And the cost of our care is small percentage of what they "waste" on acute detox.
We should start a letter writing campaign to alert our reps in senate and house about what we have to endure. (Mine is Trent LOTT and I think if enough legislators got detailed personal letters about what we have experienced, maybe they'll have congressional hearings about this!)
