I have thought that the reported lessening in the frequency of nocturnal urine voiding was NOT related to any deeper or more prolonged stage of sleep, but to the absence of the apnea episodes. As the brain finds itself starved of oxyen, it reacts with not just an arousal but an 'alarm' system. Its the repeated 'near strangulations' that cause the desire to void urine.
