I haven't found a whole lot, but here's a couple leads.
"Beta blockers: A class of drugs that block beta-adrenergic substances such as adrenaline (epinephrine), a key agent in the "sympathetic" portion of the autonomic (involuntary) nervous system."
I found this on Medicinenet.com. A little background information, including the above can be had with site searchs on "metoprolol", "beta blocker", and "beta adrenergic blocking agent".
I don't have any more time tonight, but will look more tomorrow. The above looks interesting, with my very limited knowledge in this area, but a whole lot more looking needs to be done.
If all else fails I have to pick up some prescriptions tomorrow.
