There is no diet supplement that can in any way take the place of oxygen. That said, there are some diet supplements which are still being investigated and are known to provide some benefit in the reduction of free radical damage (and other damage) to an injured brain (stroke, anoxic event and aging). Those items are:
Coenzyme Q10 taken with niacinamide, riboflavin and thiamine.
Acetyl L-carnitine
Taurine
Alpha-lipoic acid taken with (anti-oxidant complex)The Alpha-lipoic acid must be taken regularly before and after the injury to get the full benefit of its protection.
Always ask your personal physician for advice before taking any diet supplements. Some supplements are contraindicated in some patients for various reasons.
Special note...some melatonin products are made from material gathered from cadavers and run a higher risk of being contaminated.
Diet supplements are not FDA regulated and are not held to FDA manufacturing standards.
