Hello Joan....welcome!

In my case, I was given a BiPAP based solely on the difficulty I had exhaling with a CPAP during my sleep study. I have obstructive sleep apnea - only - but the CHF plays a significant part in the kind of machine you will need.

Those of us who have CHF often have difficulty exhaling against the continuous positive air pressure the CPAPs put out. The bilevel positive air pressure machines BL-PAP or BiPAP as most call them (BiPAP is a trademark) has the pressure set at your prescription level on the inhale....the exhale pressure drops down to allow you to breathe out more comfortably. I know *I'd* certainly need some extra exhaling OOMPH at 15/12!!

I'm not certain about a Mystique mask - I use the Mirage and am pleased with it.

I would like to encourage you to take a very proactive and assertive stand with your doctors and your sleep center! Most of us have learned - some of us the hard way - that if we don't ADVOCATE for ourselves, no one else is gonna do it for us!!

You've hired your doctors to provide a service; as the person paying for the service(s) provided, you have the RIGHT to know WHAT is being done, WHY it's being done and HOW it's expected to help/impact you. You have the RIGHT to know those things - it is not a *privelege* afforded you by your medical service providers. (Jo clambers down off her soapbox).

Best of luck to you...and please let us know how things go for you.

Jo
