Hi Marty...

A friend has a laminated wallet card he carries with him at all times. The card has the doc's business card on one side and notification on the other (signed and dated by the doc) that he has obstructive sleep apnea and requires CPAP machine for medical purposes. He has used the card at airports all over the world and has never had a problem. His card was provided by his sleep center...but it would be easy enough to make one up for your doc's signature. Food for thought.

P.S. The one and only time he checked it through he ended up at his destination...his machine took a detour....renting a machine under those circumstances can be a "challenge" (er...he used a much more colorful metaphor! *grin*)..his advice is to always carry it on.
