I have started writting this letter 3 times and erased it each time. I guess I see your frustration and I understand what your husband is going through because the story is so familiar.

Before I was diagnosed I used to fall asleep at stop lights and stop signs and long trips were scary because I couldn't keep my eyes open.

I was a customer service rep and fell asleep on the phone frequently. I was eventually fired. I am a computer programmer now but sleep at my desk too often. I know I have a condition but I was raised to believe that a good worker doesn't sleep at work only bums do that. I am embarrassed by it.

Regarding my family and energy levels I struggle with feelings of being less than what my wife and kids deserve. My wife deserves an alert romantic lover but as you mentioned I also sleep as soon as I hit the pillow. I also fall asleep while we are talking.

I guess what I am saying is this problem has many affects beyond the sleepiness. Energy, depression, self asteem can all be affected.

The good news is the treatment can bring about dramatic recoveries. Sometimes the solution comes easily sometimes like my case you just keep at it until you find the solution. But have faith it can get better.
