. . . between the staps, and any part of your skin against which the straps run. I use Moleskin (sold with the Dr. Scholl's foot stuff). I don't remove the adhesive backing, rather I allow the straps hold the padding in place. Since the straps are "rubbing," they should be tight enough to hold.
