CPAP Keeps me Awake

Posted by kev on May 13, 2000 at 19:34:36:

Okay, so I;ve been on Cpap for about three months now, and I think there are so many distractions, even after three months, that they counteract any good the machine is supposed to be doing. I find myself distracted, and kept awake by:

1) the sound of the air whistling out of the vent hole and blowing against my pillow

2) the sound of the machine "breathing" -- it's a Horizon LT

3) Frequwnetly awaking and having to adjust a strap because I'm having a leak, or because it's pinching against my ear. In fact, I think I am actually awakened by the discomfort and the whoosh of the vent-hole.

4) the feeling of being hung by my nostrils (I use the nasal pillows--they're the only ones I can sleep with.)

given all of these factors, I think my sleep is poorer with Cpap than without it--I awake much more often now than I did before I began using it.

Can anyone relate? Any suggestions?
