Yes, I went through that as well, only I didn't make it three months.
The machine noise, air noise, uncomfortable full-face mask and not being able to sleep in my favorite position because of constant leaks, I could never get to sleep.
After trying it for 28 straight days and never falling asleep with it on for at least three hours a night (was only getting three-four hours of sleep a night while trying this little 'experiment'), I gave up and went to a find a real sleep doctor.
After his consultation and examination, he determined that the CPAP would not work for me with my sinus and allergy condition. So now, we are trying to clear that up with medication first, and most likely some kind of surgery in the fall.
He was also surprised to learn that I was never given a thyroid blood test or had any other test done on my sinuses or allergies to determine if I could adapt to CPAP. He know believes that once my sinus problems are cleared up, one way or the other, that CPAP may become useful to me with only using a nasal system.
My DME was also of no help, considering they offer just one machine (Remstar LX at $1,100) and one mask (Respironics full face - $179). No other machines or mask options were even mentioned, and since I was so new to this whole experience, I never questioned them. I learned some very valuable lessons since that time. It's hard to believe that my insurance company paid for this without any questions (I had already met my deductible.)
Good luck. Keep reading and searching this forum for some answers to your questions. You should also try the other alt.newsgroup (listed on one of these pages) as it has also been of great help to me in my search for knowledge of this disorder.
